Custom Auto Upholstery – 5 Reasons Not to Go It Alone

In the world of auto restoration and customization, there are an enormous number of folks who love the “do-it-yourself” approach, and take that to a whole new level.  That can be fine for smaller jobs, but when it comes to a major custom auto interior project, you can often make matters worse by trying to go it alone.  Whether you are motivated by the inspired designs of Chip Foose cars, or a more traditional “classic restoration” vibe runs through your veins, I’ll outline five reasons why you should rethink the “do-it-yourself” notion, and secure the services of a custom auto upholstery expert:

1 – Oftentimes (and this is increasingly true, the older the vehicle), what starts off looking like a small amount of easily repaired damage becomes increasingly worse the deeper you go into the exploration of the problem.  When that happens, you quickly find yourself in over your head.

2 – You might wind up making things worse.  What started off being a small to medium repair you could have knocked out for a couple hundred bucks could quickly turn into something that’ll be orders of magnitude more expensive if you accidentally cause extra damages in the process of trying to fix things.

3 – Unless you’ve got lots of sources for materials, and a garage full of specialized equipment, there’s almost no way you’re going to be able to match any custom stitching involved, and it’s unlikely that you’re going to be able to match the original material and/or pattern, either.

4 – In most cases, a “quick fix” type repair isn’t going to have either the longevity OR the durability of a professionally done fix, and, if you do fix it yourself now, then have to pay to have it done later, you’ve largely wasted the time you initially put into it!

5 – Specialized equipment and contacts!  Even if you can do all the work yourself, and do it well, unless you’re a professional yourself, you’re not going to have the tools to do it as quickly, efficiently, or professionally, and the good thing is, you don’t need to!

The bottom line is this:  There are all sorts of things a good custom auto upholstery can do for you, including saving you lots of time and money!
